For anyone over 20 years of age, starting a new sport can be scary. Especially scary if the sport in question is often described with adjectives like "gnarly,awesome,and the always-frightening extreme."

But for those looking to break out of a rut and try a new activity,something extreme might be just the ticket. And few extreme sports are as accessible and inexpensive as trick-style skateboarding.

But skateboarding also can be an easy way to hurt yourself,particularly if you skate in the wrong place or don't wear protective gear. Starting Scrapes and bruises are almost a fact of skateboarding life, but broken bones and sprains are also common. To keep it safe while skateboarding, stick to the rules wherever you skate,and follow these safety tips.
